Isadore Katz

Isadore Katz, President and CEO of CLK Design Automation, Inc., has over 20 years of experience in executive management, marketing and product management in the EDA software and components industry. Most recently, Isadore was CEO and President of Lightchip, a supplier of component and software solutions to the telecommunications and cable industry. Prior to Lightchip, Isadore was CEO and President of Chrysalis Symbolic Design, an EDA software start-up selling to the semiconductor and electronics systems industry. Isadore grew the company to a $20m+ revenue ramp, and sold the company in 1999 to Avant! Isadore has held executive positions at Cadence Design Systems, MetaSoftware and Dataquest. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and Masters degree from the Sloan School at MIT.

Jim Hogan

Jim Hogan has worked in the semiconductor industry for over three decades. His experience includes time as a senior executive in electronic design automation, semiconductor intellectual property, semiconductor equipment, and fabrication companies. Jim is now a private investor serving on several boards as a director.  Most recently, he was a managing partner at Telos Venture Partners in 2004.  Additionally, Jim has held a variety of executive positions at several public companies; Senior Vice President of Business Development of Artisan Components, Senior Vice President of Business Development and the senior member of the Office of Chief Technologist at Cadence Design Systems.  Jim was a Cadence Executive Fellow and held several positions at Cadence including President of Cadence Japan, Corporate Vice President of Marketing, and Corporate Vice President for Field Operations. He was also Chief Operating Officer of Smart Machines, Inc., a semiconductor equipment automation company.  Jim also worked for National Semiconductor for 10 years and for Philips. At both companies, he established device physics laboratories globally. Jim's interest in process and design automation for integrated circuits grew from his experiences between 1972 and 1982 at his family's business, which developed semiconductor-packaging equipment. Jim holds a BA degree in mathematics, a BS degree in computer science and an MBA all from San Jose State University. He serves on the Board of Advisors at San Jose State's School of Engineering and several boards as a director.

Axel Bichara

Axel Bichara is a Partner in the technology sector. He joined Atlas Venture in 1993 and focuses on software and services technology. Before coming to Atlas Venture, he was Vice President of Product Development at Premise, a venture-backed software company which he co-founded in 1987. Premise was acquired by Computervision in 1991. Axel was lead investor in SolidWorks, a mechanical design automation software company that was acquired in 1997 by Dassault Systemes. Axel also participated as a first round lead investor in SpeechWorks. As a Board Member, Axel helped build the company through an IPO in 2000 and its later sale to ScanSoft in 2003. He continues to serve on the Board of Phase Forward (IPO in July 2004) where he was also the first round lead investor. Between 1997 and 1999 Axel spent 18 months in Munich to build up Atlas Venture's business activity in Germany. Axel holds an MBA from INSEAD, a Master of Science degree from MIT and a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from Technical University in Berlin. Karim Faris

Karim Faris is a Principal in the technology sector of Atlas Venture and focuses on opportunities in information technology, with emphasis on network infrastructure, software and services. He was previously Director of New Ventures at Level 3 Communications, responsible for evaluating new business and technology opportunities, and has led business development for the company’s softswitch services Prior to Level 3, Karim held various engineering & marketing positions at Intel Corporation, initially on the i486, and later as product manager for the Pentium Processor line, where he focused on the development and marketing of new generations of multimedia enhanced processors. He has also held positions in private equity at Generation Partners and Morgan Stanley. Karim started his career at Siemens as a software engineer working on the first Vehicle Navigation System for BMW. Karim has worked on initiatives across a broad range of industry sectors, including wireless infrastructure and advanced materials, and has published articles on Neural Networks in various industry journals. He worked closely with portfolio company Quantum Bridge, which was acquired by Motorola (NYSE: MOT) in 2004. Karim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a BS in Computer Engineering from Brown University.

Bob Pavey

Bob Pavey joined Morgenthaler based in Menlo Park, CA, in 1969 and has been a Partner since 1971. His major focus is on semiconductors, components, and materials. He sits on the Board of Directors of CLK Design Automation, Five Star Technologies, Intelleflex, Lamina Ceramics, Paratek Microwave, Renaissance Wireless and Xoomsys, Inc. During his tenure, Bob has been involved in many of the firm’s successful investments: Apple Computer, Applied Intelligent Systems (acquired by Electro Scientific), Aptis Communications (acquired by Nortel Networks), Atria Software (acquired by Rational Software), BlueGill Technologies (acquired by CheckFree), Endwave, Illustra Information Technologies (acquired by Informix), Intrinsa (acquired by Microsoft), New Focus, Synernetics (acquired by 3Com), and Synopsys. Bob is presently a Trustee of the Commonfund, a leading provider of investment programs for non-profit endowments. He is past President and Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association and in 2005 was presented the NVCA’s Outstanding Service Award. Bob also is past Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Endowment Association of the College of William and Mary. From 1967 until 1969, Bob held several management positions with Foseco, Inc. Bob holds a B.S. in Physics from The College of William & Mary, an M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Paul Levine

Before joining Morgenthaler in 1998, Paul was the founding CEO of Atria Software where he built a business that developed, distributed, and supported a high-end configuration management system for large software development teams. Paul took Atria public in 1994, and merged it with Pure Software in 1996. Pure Software ultimately merged with Rational in 1997 before Rational was acquired by IBM. Prior to Atria, Paul spent 8 years at Apollo Computer, and before that several years at Prime Computer. At Morgenthaler, Paul has been involved in a wide range of information technology companies. Among these has been Aptis Communications (an access box company acquired by Nortel), NBX (an IP telephony company acquired by 3COM), BlueGill (an electronic bill presentment company acquired by CheckFree), WebSpective (a Website management system company acquired by Inktomi), Fiber Optics Network Solutions (a passive fiber solutions company acquired by ADT), and StarGen Technologies (acquired by Dolphin Interconnect Systems). He currently serves on the boards of CLK Design Automation, Sionex Corporation, and Foonz. Paul is based in Lexington, MA.
